"Sono-boe" launcher systems

SBDU (Sono-boe Dispensing Unit)

It is a by gravity dispensing system for sonobuoys used in anti-submarine warfare, designed, qualified and manufactured by MES, in the frame of the European NH90 program. The system can release sonobuoys Size A, F and G.

MES has developed and produced dispensers in 6, 8 and 10 sonobuoys configuration that can be installed on different platforms integrated with the on board avionic suite or in the stand alone configuration.

It is important to highlight that the use of composites and titanium in SBDU is highly innovative in terms of dispensing systems, as it makes them extremely lightweight. MES is participating jointly with the American company HARRYS/EDO in the MMA (Maritime Multimission Aircraft) programme. It has been chosen with the latter to manufacture a compressed air dispensing system for sonobuoys based on the carousel technology already used in the SBDU systems described above.

LSDU (Light Store Dispensing Unit)

Dispensing system for stores of various sorts, such as radio signals, smoke devices and luminous devices used in search and rescue activities. The system was chosen, as the SBDU, after an international tender for installation on NH90 helicopters naval version helicopters. The LSDU releases MR25, MR72, MK84 and MK400 type stores.

A version has also been produced for Sikorsky USA for installation on Canadian Navy CH148 helicopters integrated with on board avionic systems and on EH101 in stand alone configuration with its own control panel designed and produced by MES. For this system, as for the SBDU, to reduce the weight particular attention has been paid to the use of specific materials.
